The Bleeding Heart is the fifth episode of the second season of Pennyworth and the fifteenth episode of the series overall. It aired on Epix on March 07, 2021.

Synopsis[]

While Alfred and Dave Boy run one last job for Gully in order to buy tickets to America, tensions ratchet up at Raven Union HQ between Harwood and his lieutenants.

Plot[]

Alfred reunites with his old friend, Thomas Wayne and asks the CIA agent what it would cost him to arrange for him and two others to travel to Gotham, and the price is steep. In fact, although Alfred has taken part in Troy's latest robbery, he still doesn't have enough money. Thomas offers to loan Alfred the money, but he refuses, stating he doesn't want to be indebted to him

Instead, Alfred and his companion Dave Boy agree to participate in Troy's next heist. This time around, the SAS Captain has set his sights on a popular wrestling event, where he plans on stealing the organizer's fortune during the next match. Thousands of people are in attendance for the wrestling event. Alfred, Dave Boy, Gulliver and his men infiltrate the organizer's office and empty their safe. However, the wrestling match ends abruptly, causing the plan to be thrown out the window.

The explosion of the safe causes a panic, and in order to get away, one of Gulliver's men shoots and kills multiple people, causing the tragic robbery to make the news. Now that he has his money, Alfred visits his mother to tell her the good news, but with a detailed account of the event in the newspapers, she is able to put two and two together and kicks her son out for the role he played in this massacre. After all of this, a self-loathing Alfred embarks on a dangerous path when he ends up sleeping with Troy's wife, Melanie and leaving his girlfriend all alone while she records her album in a studio, all but ensuring a deadly confrontation with his old SAS Captain.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Lord Harwood, the Raven Union's Frances Gaunt sets up a secret meeting with the English League's Prime Minister Aziz to try and broker some sort of peace deal. Unfortunately, their talk doesn't lead anywhere and Lord Harwood finds out about it. He takes Frances' betrayal personally and has her arrested and locked up as a result.

Elsewhere, Katie learns of not just Bet’s trauma but also some of the horrific things she’s done, as recounted to her by Peggy.

Around that time, Lucius continues to spy on the Raven Union, and now that he has amassed all the information he requires, he sends a message to his handler, Thomas Wayne, that he requires an exit as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the message goes unnoticed for a while, mainly because the paper it's printed on falls behind a desk. When Thomas eventually finds the note, the urgency in Lucius' message makes it all but clear that he is in danger, and Thomas may not be able to get him out in time.
